Malice - The Message (Addressing the Issue)

"Malice" is a film that is shrouded in hostility. It is a dystopian tragedy, where no good goes unpunished and where no bad deed is simply bad . The lines haven't simply been crossed, they have been tangled and knotted together to form a rope that chokes and restrains the will and morality of society. We follow the story of a teenager who has lost his mother to gang violence and territorialism. The story is not per say about him, but it is about combating the flawed nature of the selfish, immoral, and overbearing gangsters of today, in contrast to the past, where people stood up for what they believed in, rather than being a part of a bandwagon. You can think back to the riots during the reign of N.W.A. where they were protesting for their rights to speak freely about their daily lives in a country against African-Americans. And still, during this time, the Public felt the need to nominate moderate presidents that, of course, acted according to their own agendas and occ...

Concept Design

Image
Above is a display of the original concept design. The concept depicts a young adult male, dawning a battle-ridden coat, shirt, joggers, and shin guard. The shirt is a vesper-like shirt, to add to the movements and give him an extra aesthetic. His jacket it to allow him to have a hoodie to hide himself when in the darkness. The joggers being green allows it to pop with the red lighting when on screen. Blood is obviously too dark to noticeably pop when on the opposite color. The one, worn shin guard shows that in battle he lost his other guard and that he is heavily using them to protect his legs. He wears fishnets on his arm to add more to the aesthetic of being ninja-like; this concept idea was drawn from 'Naruto,' a Japanese anime show and manga. he had a senbon arm-guard holding three senbon and his other wrist has a brace with a communicator in the inner side of it.

Wardrobe

Image
My partner and I did some wardrobe hunting to meet our concept design for our main protagonist. I purchased green joggers, because they allow cover and mobility, along with allowing red to pop with all of the lighting that we'd plan to use. My partner purchased a grey jacket. Furthermore, I had a phantom costume that I felt would add to the aesthetic of the character in action. I cut it waste-length for our actor to wear, then I proceeded to add what would seem to be battle damage to it; these simulations include cuts and bullet holes.

Make-up

Image
Below is a video of my make-up work for the film project. I did the make-up for the filming. I cut out a piece of a silver mask and glued it to my cheek and tried my hardest to make it seem as though the metal was embedded within my skin. I folded glue over the metal and clear some glue from it to allow it to seem clean and still maintain its luster. I do face painting, so I used my face paint to throw on some symbols that fill the style of which our cult would wear. I also sprayed my hair red to add a bit more to my character. The red, is symbolism for the fact that the character is blood soaked. I used purple paint as eyeshadow simply to add more coloration to the culture and world that I would have to build when working on a longer variation of this project. After I worked on myself, I got my dad in a chair to make his eyes seem deeper in darkness using black face paint.

Malice (Script)

Image
I began working on the concept during the summer. On Nov. 8, 2017, I wrote the first script. I listened to a few songs for inspiration. In the car on the way to school I listened to ‘Beautiful War’ By Earl St. Clair. I also listened to ‘Hard,’ ‘Aw yeah,’ ‘Holier than Thou,’ and ‘Hope for a Higher Power,’ ‘Delusional,’ ‘Paint a Dark Picture,’ ‘On the Bible.’ I began writing Malice in the Summer and it’s a sci-fi project that I wanted to work on with my big brother, I felt that this would be good showcase to introduce some of the characters Malice Synopsis: A teenager loses his mother to the actions a revolutionary cult and seeks vengeance against the cult once realizing that they are the reason for her death. There were three drafts produced and my partner and I had finally settled on the script below.
