Armageddon Opening Analysis
Armageddon (1998), a $140 million budget Tombstone Picture, is about a titanic asteroid that is headed to destroy Earth and a group of blue collar oil drillers are recruited to go into space to drill through the asteroid to destroy it with a nuclear bomb. This movie is directed by Michael Bay. The first two minutes of this movie displays an all-visual effect representation of the asteroid destroying life during the dinosaurs. It then proceeded to display a new asteroid approaching Earth in modern day (being 1998). This introduction is narrated over, speaking on the topic of the 6 mile wide asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs, with more power than any nuclear weapon, and continues by telling us about the impending danger that Earth faces with the new asteroid. This doesn't tell us any of the characters in the story, but it does reveal to the audience what the conflict will be. It does include the main actor, Bruce Willis, before displaying the title (in flames), but no other role...
